Veteran Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor has recalled an inspiring memory from his early days, revealing how a local shopkeeper believed in his potential long before he became a film star.
During an appearance on comedian Kapil Sharma’s chat show, Kapoor shared how a shopkeeper in his neighbourhood had put up a large poster of him even before he had entered the film industry.
Recalling their conversations at a nearby paan shop, Kapoor said the shopkeeper would encourage him to try his luck in Mumbai and predict that he would achieve success.
“He had kept a big poster of mine. At night, when we used to meet three-four friends at the same paan shop, he used to ask me, ‘What are you doing here? Try something in Bombay. You’ll be successful. Look, I have even kept your poster’,” Kapoor recalled.
The actor said he never forgot the shopkeeper’s faith in him. After entering the film industry and gaining recognition, Kapoor returned to the shop, which had grown somewhat larger by then, to acknowledge the man’s encouragement.
Recalling what he told him, Kapoor said, “What you said turned out to be true. God bless you. Whenever you need anything, whatever I would be able to do as per my capacity. I am always there for you.”
Kapoor made his film debut in 1977 with Khel Khilari Ka, directed by Arjun Hingorani. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has appeared in over 700 films, earning recognition for both comic performances and villainous roles.
He remains particularly popular for playing Crime Master Gogo in the 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna. His other notable films include Qurbani, Hero, Himmatwala, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1 and Judwaa.
His recollection highlights the lasting impact of an early believer whose encouragement stayed with him even after he achieved stardom.
