Indian international para-badminton player Prema Vishwas has made an emotional public appeal, alleging that her official entry for the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games was deliberately delayed, resulting in its rejection.
The WH1-category shuttler has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention, questioning the selection process and pointing out that players ranked below her were included in the Indian squad.
“My Singles Asian Ranking is 8 and I am in the Top 6 in Women’s Doubles. Yet my entry for the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games was not sent initially,” Prema said in a Facebook post. “When it was finally sent, it was delayed for so long that it is no longer being accepted. What is my fault in this?”
Prema, who hails from Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar, questioned why players ranked as low as 11 in Singles had their entries processed while hers was left out despite her higher ranking.
“When entries were submitted for players ranked up to 11 in Singles, why was mine left out despite my Singles Rank 8 and Women’s Doubles Top 6 status? Why should I suffer the loss of my years of hard work and ranking?” she asked.
Sharing details of her personal and financial struggles, Prema said she comes from an underprivileged family, has lost her father, does not have a job and lacks permanent sponsorship.
“I come from a very poor family. I lost my father, I have no job, and I do not have any permanent sponsor. I have reached this level by seeking help from people, training under extremely difficult circumstances, and representing my country,” she said.
Describing the Asian Para Games as potentially the first and last such opportunity of her career, Prema said she does not have the financial backing to continue competing for years and rebuild her ranking.
Urging Modi to ensure a fair process, she appealed for swift government intervention to address what she described as an administrative delay under applicable sports guidelines.
“Prime Minister Sir, I am not asking for any favours; I am simply asking for justice. All I ask for is one opportunity to play for my nation,” she said.
Prema had won two bronze medals at the Egypt Para-Badminton International 2025, which was part of the selection rankings for the Para-Asian Games.
