New Delhi, October 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The mini auction for the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be held on December 16 in Goa, sources told IANS on Saturday.

Although a formal email communication has yet to be sent to team owners and CEOs, sources from multiple franchises and the broadcast side have confirmed that December 16 is the likely date for the auction.

It is understood that December 14 was initially being considered. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to representatives of all 10 franchises indicating December 16 as the proposed date, with the auction briefing scheduled for December 15.

“The BCCI sent out a text message to all ten teams’ representatives via WhatsApp for the auction to take place on December 16, with the auction briefing to be done a day before on December 15,” sources told IANS.

The message was also intended to establish how many representatives from each franchise would attend, allowing accommodation bookings at the ITC Grand Hotel to be initiated promptly, the sources added.

The likely auction date could coincide with India’s second ODI against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on December 16.

The opening match of the series, scheduled for December 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, is yet to be assigned another venue as the iconic stadium is set to undergo drainage and pitch renovation work.

If confirmed, Goa will host an IPL auction for the first time. The event would also return to India after the last few editions were held in West Asian cities.

The mini auction will give all 10 franchises — Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad — an opportunity to address gaps in their squads after the player retention and release window closes in mid-November.

All 10 franchises are expected to submit their final lists of retained and released players to the BCCI by mid-November. The board will then prepare the pool of players who will go under the hammer at the auction.
