Mumbai, November 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has shared a heartwarming account of Amitabh Bachchan’s commitment to his son Abhishek, revealing that the Bollywood megastar would fly to Switzerland just to watch his school basketball matches before returning to work.

The anecdote came up during Ranbir’s appearance on the television quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

Speaking about the father-son bond, Ranbir said Abhishek had often told him how his father made sure to be present for important moments in his life, despite his demanding professional schedule.

Recalling Abhishek’s account, Ranbir said Amitabh would take a flight to Switzerland, where Abhishek was studying, watch a two-hour school basketball match and then fly straight back to the studio to resume shooting.

Ranbir also acknowledged the effort Amitabh had made at a time when father-son relationships were often marked by a certain distance and professional commitments could leave little time for family.

He congratulated the veteran actor for consistently making time for his son’s important milestones.

Responding to Ranbir, Amitabh said it was a father’s responsibility to encourage his children and be present whenever possible.

He explained that even if a child’s happiness depended on a parent’s presence for just five minutes, a father should make the effort to reach there.

“When there is love, there is also responsibility,” Amitabh said, reflecting on how affection naturally brings a sense of duty towards one’s children.

During the same conversation, Amitabh also spoke about how he has supported Abhishek through professional setbacks, particularly when his films have failed to perform well.

He said he had deliberately avoided criticising his son, pointing out that thousands of people were already ready to judge him. Amitabh said he preferred to offer encouragement and reassure Abhishek that one unsuccessful film did not mean opportunities would not come again.

The veteran actor said his response had always been to bless his son and remind him that more films and work would follow.
