A 24-year-old woman conductor of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has died after allegedly being pushed out of a moving bus during an argument with a passenger over ticket fare and change.
Gundla Pravalika, who was posted at the corporation’s Manuguru depot in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, died at a private hospital in Hyderabad late Tuesday after battling for her life for 10 days.
The incident occurred on October 25 near Mittagudem village. According to the account provided, a passenger identified as Mounika had handed over a Rs 100 note for her son’s ticket. When Pravalika asked her to collect the balance later because she did not have change, an argument broke out. The passenger allegedly pushed the conductor out of the moving bus.
Pravalika fell on the road and was run over by the rear wheels. Her right leg was crushed, while her left leg also suffered serious injuries. She was initially taken to a hospital in Bhadrachalam before being shifted to Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Police took the accused passenger into custody and registered a case.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed grief over Pravalika’s death and assured her family of government assistance. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also conveyed condolences, saying the government and TGSRTC would stand by the family and that strict action was being taken against those responsible.
The state government announced Rs 10 lakh in ex gratia compensation, a house under the Indiramma Indlu scheme and a government job for the deceased conductor’s mother.
Meanwhile, TGSRTC employees observed a bandh across the undivided Khammam district on Wednesday following a call by their Joint Action Committee. Bus services were disrupted as employees staged protests demanding stringent punishment for the accused.
