Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia has thanked the people of Jalandhar for their enthusiastic participation and support in making the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy matches hosted in the city a success.
At the conclusion of the matches at Olympian Surjeet Hockey Stadium, Walia said the strong turnout and enthusiasm of local sports lovers reflected Jalandhar’s deep-rooted passion for hockey. He said the response from residents had added to the significance of the international tournament and set a new benchmark for hosting major sporting events in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner also acknowledged the efforts of the civil and police administrations, which worked round the clock to ensure arrangements, coordination and security during the event.
He said teams from different departments had worked under tight deadlines to upgrade and manage the stadium facilities to meet the requirements of an international competition. The coordinated efforts, he added, helped ensure the smooth conduct of the scheduled matches.
“Hosting an international sporting event of this magnitude is a matter of immense pride for the entire district,” Walia said, crediting residents and the personnel involved in the arrangements for contributing to the tournament’s successful conduct.
He said the event had further highlighted Jalandhar’s standing as an important centre for hockey and other sporting activities, while demonstrating the district’s capacity to host national and international competitions.
