Actress Janhvi Kapoor paid a special tribute to her late mother, legendary actress Sridevi, by recreating her iconic look from the 1986 fantasy film ‘Nagina’ for Halloween this year.
Janhvi stepped into Sridevi’s look, while social media personality Orry recreated the appearance of late actor Rishi Kapoor. Through a recreated poster and glimpses from the shoot, the duo brought back memories of the popular film.
Sharing the pictures and videos on Instagram, Janhvi expressed her excitement, writing, “Happy Halloweeeeeny (Ghost emoji) had to recreate one of the most iconic movie moments everrrrr (Snake, white heart and sparkles emoticons) (sic).”
She further said that Halloween had increasingly become an occasion to dress up as favourite characters and recreate popular moments from films and pop culture.
“Sometimes they’re spooky, sometimes they’re funny, and sometimes it’s a tribute (red heart emoji). And who could possibly be more iconic than Mumma, Rishi uncle and Amrish sir!! (Teary eyes and white heart emoji) Got a little help from (Shushing Face, Winking Face and lipstick emojis) for the lewk,” she added.
Janhvi’s sister, actress Khushi Kapoor, reacted to the post, commenting, “You have won Halloween.”
Directed and produced by Harmesh Malhotra under the banner of Eastern Films, ‘Nagina’ featured Sridevi as Rajni, a shape-shifting serpent woman who marries Rajiv, played by Rishi Kapoor, to avenge her spouse’s death at the hands of an evil saint.
The film’s screenplay was written by Ravi Kapoor, while the story was provided by Jagmohan Kapoor. Its cast also included Amrish Puri, Komal Mahuvakar, Sushma Seth and Prem Chopra.
Released in theatres on November 28, 1986, ‘Nagina’ became a major box-office success and emerged as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of that year.
Sridevi died in Dubai in February 2018 at the age of 54. Her death was determined to have been caused by accidental drowning.
