Mumbai, October 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified persons who allegedly trespassed into a flat in Thane that had been attached in connection with a money laundering investigation into an extortion case involving Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar, brother of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
According to an ED statement issued on Friday, the flat was attached in 2022 during an investigation into alleged extortion by Kaskar and others. The agency said the FIR was filed as a deterrent against unauthorised entry into properties attached and held in the possession of its Mumbai Zonal Office-I.
The FIR was registered on October 15 at Kasarvadavali Police Station in Thane under Sections 329(4) and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, following alleged trespass and interference with the attached property.
The ED said the flat was provisionally attached through an order dated April 8, 2022. The attachment was subsequently confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority under Section 8(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, on September 29, 2022. The agency took possession of the property on December 17, 2024, under Section 8(4) of the Act.
The money laundering investigation originated from an FIR registered at Kasarvadavali Police Station concerning allegations of extortion against Kaskar, Mumtaz Azaz Sheikh alias Raju, Israr Ali Jamil Saiyad and others.
During the investigation, the ED alleged that flats were demanded to be registered in the names of, or at the direction of, the accused following threats and extortion. In this connection, Flat No. 405 was registered in the name of Mumtaz Azaz Sheikh on May 29, the agency said. The statement did not specify the year for that registration.
The agency said it later discovered that some persons had entered the attached flat, broken its lock and removed the notice declaring ED possession.
Following inspections, the ED took steps to secure the premises. The matter was also brought before the Special PMLA Court, which directed the agency to restore possession with police assistance, if required.
In compliance with the court’s direction, the ED changed the lock in the presence of police personnel and witnesses and restored possession of the flat. A fresh notice was affixed at the premises, informing anyone aggrieved by the action that they could approach the ED office or the court conducting the trial.
The agency said the FIR was intended to ensure that the alleged trespass was investigated and those responsible were brought to justice.
