The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) has arrested Ram Singh, an assistant with the Karnal Municipal Corporation, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in connection with the transfer of shop ownership and registration of its sale deed.
According to an official statement, the SV&ACB Karnal team caught the accused red-handed while accepting the money at the Karnal tehsil complex. The operation was conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer and a shadow witness, and the bribe amount was recovered from him.
Bribe Demanded for Shop Ownership Transfer
The complaint stated that Shop No. 15 at Mughal Canal in Karnal was held partly in the name of the complainant’s father, who owned a 60 per cent share. Following his death, the ownership of that share was to be transferred to the complainant and his brothers.
According to the complaint, Ram Singh demanded Rs 75,000 from complainant Vikram and his uncle, Bharat Bhushan, for issuing the transfer letter and facilitating the registration of the sale or conveyance deed. The amount was subsequently settled at Rs 50,000.
The accused had allegedly already accepted Rs 30,000 and issued the transfer letter. He then demanded the remaining Rs 20,000 on October 23, the day scheduled for the registration.
ACB Lays Trap, Registers Case
Acting on the complaint, the SV&ACB Karnal team laid a trap at the tehsil complex and arrested Ram Singh while he was allegedly accepting the remaining Rs 20,000 in the presence of the designated officials and shadow witness.
The Bureau has registered an FIR (No. 29, dated October 23, 2026) against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the SV&ACB police station in Karnal.
Ram Singh has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
The action forms part of the Haryana government’s stated zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and bribery in public offices.
