Indian para-shooter Mona Agarwal clinched her second gold medal at the Asian Para Games on Friday, setting a world record in the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 event at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
Mona scored a world-record 357.5 points in the final to claim the top podium spot, while compatriot Avani Lekhara finished fourth with 333.2 points.
The Indian shooter surpassed the previous world record of 356 points set by Sweden’s Anna Benson at the World Cup in Novi Sad in July 2026. She also bettered the previous Asian record of 355.7, held by South Korea’s Lee Yun-ri.
Mona entered the final after qualifying sixth with 566-17x. Avani, meanwhile, topped the qualification round with 580-24x, setting an Asian Para Games qualification record.
Despite her lower qualification ranking, Mona delivered a strong performance in the final. She scored 101.4 in the first kneeling series and 102.1 in the first prone series before maintaining her composure through the standing rounds to secure the gold.
China’s Cuiping Zhang won silver with 353.7 points, while South Korea’s Miyoung Kim took bronze with 344.4 points.
The victory adds to Mona’s success in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event, where she had already won gold with an Asian Para Games record score of 250 points. Avani claimed silver in that event with 249.6 points, while South Korea’s Yunri Lee secured bronze with 227.9.
Mona’s latest triumph further strengthens India’s campaign at the Games, with the shooter demonstrating her ability to deliver under pressure in both rifle events.
