Actress Shweta Tripathi says stepping into film production has changed the way she approaches storytelling, giving her a broader perspective on a film’s journey beyond its making and the audiences it can reach.
Her debut feature as a producer, Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, has travelled from the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026, marking an important milestone in her production journey.
“There’s something very special about taking a film you believe in to an international platform, especially when it’s your first feature as a producer,” Shweta said in a statement.
Describing the journey from Berlin to Toronto as meaningful, she said representing the film in her new role had allowed her to look beyond the filmmaking process and consider the conversations the story could inspire and the people it might reach.
“Producing has made me look at storytelling differently. As an actor, you are deeply involved in bringing a character and a story to life,” she said.
She added that producing also requires an understanding of what happens after a film is completed, including building the right partnerships and finding opportunities to connect it with audiences. International festivals and markets, she noted, bring together people who can help turn those possibilities into reality.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sanjoy Nag, Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan features Tillotama Shome alongside Shweta. The film explores queer love and human relationships, approaching its themes with honesty and nuance.
Shweta’s production journey began in theatre. In 2010, she launched her theatre production company, AllMyTea, with Cock, a queer drama written by Olivier Award-winning British playwright Mike Bartlett.
Her latest venture marks a further step in expanding her involvement in storytelling, from performing on screen to helping films find their audiences.
