Bengaluru Police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Bihar for allegedly murdering his wife and dumping her body in a stormwater drain on Magadi Road following frequent quarrels over suspicions of an extramarital relationship.

The accused, Mohammed Irfaz, allegedly killed his 25-year-old wife, Ruksana, on October 10. Her body was recovered from the drain three days later, but investigators initially struggled to establish her identity.

Police said the couple, both natives of Bihar, had married around a year ago and moved to Bengaluru approximately six months back. They had reportedly fallen in love while selling balloons in Bihar. Irfaz subsequently began working at a garment factory, while Ruksana also took up employment.

According to investigators, Irfaz frequently questioned his wife over her phone conversations, suspecting she was involved in an extramarital relationship. The dispute allegedly escalated on October 10, when he attacked her with a stone and stuffed a scarf into her mouth.

After the alleged murder, Irfaz reportedly broke the handle lock of an unidentified person’s motorcycle and used the vehicle to transport Ruksana’s body in a bag before dumping it in the stormwater drain.

The Magadi Road police formed more than 10 teams, conducted door-to-door inquiries and gathered information about missing persons. Their investigation gained momentum after residents reported that a man from Gopalapura had complained about his wife going missing.

When questioned, Irfaz allegedly claimed that Ruksana had returned to Bihar and was not using her mobile phone. Police grew suspicious of his account and took him into custody, where he allegedly confessed to the crime.

The case comes amid other reported incidents of domestic killings in Bengaluru. In a separate case, police arrested Sagar Chandra Rawat, 32, for allegedly murdering his wife, Anusuya Behara, 28, following a dispute over finances and salary.

Her decomposed body was discovered in a vacant plot in Agrahara Layout, M.S. Nagar, on September 2, 2026. Investigators reportedly traced a clothing tag to a shopping complex in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, which helped identify the victim and led to Rawat’s arrest.
