Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Thursday made a surprise visit to Dwarka Police Station in Sector 23 to assess policing infrastructure, operational preparedness and facilities for addressing public grievances, emphasising the need for responsive and accountable policing.
In a post on X, Sandhu said, “A #SurakshitDilli is the foundation of a #ViksitDilli.”
Describing the visit as an impromptu inspection, the Lieutenant Governor said he reviewed operational readiness, policing infrastructure and the quality of services provided to citizens.
He interacted with police personnel and assessed grievance redressal mechanisms, emergency response preparedness and local surveillance systems, focusing on swift resolution of complaints, timely emergency assistance, safer neighbourhoods and respectful, transparent public dealing.
Sandhu emphasised proactive patrolling, time-bound responses and accountable service delivery to strengthen public trust and improve citizens’ everyday safety and security.
The visit came amid a broader focus on security, infrastructure development and civic improvement in the national capital.
Earlier, Sandhu attended an event in Dwarka alongside Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra and other dignitaries for the launch of Yamuna rejuvenation projects worth Rs 8,941 crore.
Highlighting the importance of restoring the river, Sandhu said that its rejuvenation required systemic solutions rather than temporary measures.
He noted that advanced treatment plants, decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs), drain interception measures and expanded sewer networks would help curb the discharge of untreated waste and restore the Yamuna.
“A cleaner Yamuna is vital to #ViksitDilli,” he said, stressing time-bound implementation, accountability and measurable results on the ground.
Separately, the Lieutenant Governor, during a meeting with prosecutors, stressed the need to address avoidable delays and lapses in court proceedings to improve the performance of the Directorate of Prosecution.
Sandhu expressed concern over low conviction rates, the growing pendency of cases and delays in the disposal of court matters in the national capital.
He called for stronger pre-trial scrutiny of charge-sheets, fewer unnecessary adjournments and the timely production of witnesses to ensure more effective prosecution and speedier trials.
