The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested three people and seized 2.032 kg of heroin worth an estimated Rs 10.16 crore in two separate operations, with investigators probing suspected links to an interstate drug-smuggling network.
The recoveries were made by Unit 11 of the Mumbai Crime Branch following specific intelligence inputs, officials said on Tuesday.
The first operation took place on October 14 in Kandivali West, where police acted on information about the suspected movement of narcotics. During the operation, officers recovered 758 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 3.79 crore, from two suspects.
Interrogation of the two arrested individuals subsequently provided leads that helped investigators extend the probe and identify another suspected link in the alleged drug supply chain.
Acting on the information, the Crime Branch conducted a second operation on October 17 and seized another 1.274 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 6.37 crore, from a third suspect.
The combined recovery from the two operations amounted to 2.032 kg of heroin, with an estimated market value of Rs 10.16 crore.
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a detailed investigation into the alleged trafficking network.
Preliminary findings suggest that the arrested individuals may be connected to a heroin-smuggling syndicate suspected of operating across state borders, officials said. Investigators are examining the network’s activities to establish the extent of its operations and identify other people allegedly involved.
The police are also attempting to trace the suppliers suspected of providing the seized narcotics and establish the source of the contraband. The investigation is further focused on identifying individuals allegedly involved in the purchase, distribution and sale of the drugs.
