Srinagar, October 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Security forces foiled a suspected infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jumgund area of Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday morning, official sources said.

According to the sources, troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in the area and challenged the suspected infiltrators. A brief exchange of gunfire followed, after which an operation was launched to search the area.

“An operation is now underway in the area. Further details are awaited,” sources said.

An official confirmation of the incident was awaited.

The Keran sector is among the sensitive areas along the LoC in north Kashmir, where security forces maintain heightened vigilance to prevent infiltration and other cross-border activities.

The LoC runs for roughly 740 km through parts of Jammu and Kashmir, covering areas in Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla in the Valley and Rajouri, Poonch and parts of Jammu in the Jammu division.

The Indian Army maintains a multi-layered anti-infiltration system along the LoC, including extensive fencing and regular patrolling to detect and prevent unauthorised cross-border movement.

Security forces also remain alert to attempts involving the movement of arms, ammunition, cash and narcotics across the border, including the use of drones. The International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts is guarded by the Border Security Force.

Further details about the suspected infiltration attempt and the ongoing operation are awaited.
