Stalin’s Support for CJP Fuels Speculation Over DMK’s Third-Front Strategy

Chennai, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

DMK president M.K. Stalin’s offer of support to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) following the arrest of two of its functionaries in Delhi has triggered speculation about possible political outreach as the Tamil Nadu party explores options beyond the BJP- and Congress-led national alliances.

However, no alliance or formal understanding between the DMK and CJP has been announced, and Stalin’s intervention has focused primarily on the arrests and the right to protest.

Stalin condemned the arrest of CJP functionaries Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, offering the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s support and legal assistance. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke subsequently thanked the DMK chief for the gesture.

The development comes amid reports of efforts by the DMK to explore the possibility of a third political front at the national level following its defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

The DMK had contested the previous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections as part of the Congress-led INDIA bloc. However, the Congress subsequently joined the victorious TVK-led coalition in Tamil Nadu and secured two ministerial positions, dealing a setback to its former ally.

With the AIADMK aligned with the BJP and the TVK associated with the Congress-led formation, the DMK faces a more complicated political landscape.

DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi had earlier met Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray amid discussions about a possible third front. Those contacts have yet to produce a concrete arrangement.

The latest episode follows protests in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Police arrested Das and Ranka for allegedly entering the Jantar Mantar area without authorisation.

Questioning the government’s response to the demonstrations, Stalin asked how many protesters could be arrested and how many young voices could be suppressed. He warned that jailing more young people would generate further opposition and argued that even ordinary citizens without political affiliations could take to the streets.

While the DMK’s support has opened the door to speculation about a broader understanding with CJP, the contours of any third front remain uncertain, with no defined structure or common programme in place.
