National Award-winning actress Vidya Balan is set to reunite with filmmaker R. Balki for a new Tamil film, marking their first collaboration in 17 years.
The actress, who was recently seen in the period film Raja Shivaji, shared a glimpse of the upcoming project on Tuesday through her Instagram Stories, posting two pictures that hinted at the beginning of a new professional journey.
The first picture, captured in monochrome, showed Vidya seated on a couch. She captioned it, “A quiet moment before the madness begins”.
The second picture featured the actress holding a script, wearing spectacles and sporting a long braid. She shared the photograph with the caption, “New Beginnings #NewTamilFilm with #RBalki”.
Although Vidya has not disclosed further details about the yet-to-be-titled film, her social media post appears to confirm that she has begun work on the project. The film will bring her back together with Balki nearly two decades after their earlier collaboration on Paa, which was released in 2009.
The upcoming Tamil film adds to Vidya’s busy slate of projects. She will next be seen as Kantha in the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 15, 2026, with Sun Pictures officially listing Vidya among its cast.
The actress is also set to reunite with Akshay Kumar in an upcoming untitled comedy directed by Anees Bazmee. The film, which also stars Raashii Khanna, is slated for a theatrical release on December 4, 2026. The makers have already completed a shooting schedule in Kerala.
Vidya’s reunion with Balki has generated curiosity, with audiences awaiting further details about the project and her role in the Tamil film.
