The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh on the complaint of a Public Works Department (PWD) assistant engineer, who accused the Tilak Nagar legislator of obstructing government work and damaging public property, an official said on Monday.
Police sources said the Tilak Nagar SHO has also added provisions related to threat and intimidation to the case.
The FIR followed separate complaints filed on Sunday by the PWD assistant engineer and a representative of private construction company C.P. Arora Private Limited against Singh.
The complaints relate to an incident at a road-construction site in Vikaspuri, where a commotion broke out during an official inspection by Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh.
In his complaint, the PWD engineer alleged that Singh and his supporters interfered with government work and broke road material, which was then allegedly used to attack the Minister, with debris thrown towards his car.
The engineer sought legal action for allegedly obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties, pressuring officials over illegal demands, criminal intimidation, damaging public property and attacking government officials.
The separate complaint by the construction company alleged that on September 24, Singh and around 40-50 supporters stopped road-construction work and demanded Rs 50 lakh. The complainant further alleged that the group threatened to set the company’s machinery on fire if the money was not paid.
According to the complaint, the same group allegedly confronted the PWD Minister during Sunday’s incident and Singh himself threw a stone at the Minister’s car.
The construction company expressed concern over the safety of its staff, workers and machinery, and sought police protection so that the road project could proceed without further interference or threats.
The allegations made in the complaints are subject to investigation.
