Actress Yami Gautam Dhar has expressed her pride and gratitude after receiving the Best Actress honour at the 72nd National Film Awards, saying the recognition reinforced her belief in the value of honest work, dedication and perseverance.
Speaking to the media after the awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, Yami said she was still absorbing the significance of the moment and described the honour as a matter of great pride for an artiste.
“I am still trying to soak in this moment. It’s a great matter of pride for any artiste who has worked all their life,” she said, while dedicating her message to aspiring artistes who come to cities with dreams of making a mark.
Yami encouraged those pursuing careers in the arts to remain committed to their work, saying the course of life cannot always be predicted but sincere effort eventually brings its rewards.
“All you could do is do your work with honesty, and one day you will reach your destination,” she said.
Yami received the Best Actress award for her performance in Article 370, which depicts the planning and aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India.
Reflecting on the recognition, the actress said she remained uncertain about what the future held but was looking forward to exploring new opportunities.
“I can’t say where life will take you because I am still looking to explore what life has to offer and I don’t know where it will take me but this is a huge honour, and I feel so proud on receiving the National Award,” she said.
Yami also spoke about the significance of the National Film Awards ceremony being held outside New Delhi for the first time, with Kevadia in Gujarat serving as the venue.
She said artistes from different parts of the country, representing varied traditions and cultures, had come together at the event, which she said symbolised the significance of the Statue of Unity.
The 72nd National Film Awards recognised Indian cinema for 2024. Article 370 received the Best Feature Film honour, while Yami was named Best Actress for her performance in the film.
Malayalam cinema veteran Mammootty received the Best Actor award for Bramayugam, sharing the honour with actor Kartik Aaryan, who was recognised for his performance in the sports biopic Chandu Champion.
