Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi on Tuesday condemned the alleged molestation of two Class 10 students in Jamui and said that those who disclosed the identity of the minor victim on social media should also face action.
Calling the incident unacceptable, Saraogi said the police acted promptly after the matter came to light by registering an FIR, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and arresting three people.
“Such incidents cannot be accepted in a civilised society under any circumstances. One cannot condemn it enough,” Saraogi said, adding that police teams were conducting raids to arrest the main accused.
He also criticised the disclosure of the minor victim’s identity on social media.
“But the people who revealed the identity of the victim on social media are also at fault. One’s identity can’t be revealed on social media in such cases. People who revealed the minor’s identity will be punished too,” he said.
A video purportedly showing the harassment of two Class 10 students, including a girl, in Jamui has circulated widely on social media. According to the account of the incident, the students were returning from coaching classes on a scooter when a group of youths allegedly stopped them, molested the girl and assaulted the boy.
Saraogi said the main accused would also be arrested and asserted that no one involved in the incident would be spared.
Reacting to Opposition criticism, he referred to incidents reported during the tenure of the previous government and questioned RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s comments on the matter. Saraogi alleged that several such incidents had taken place when Tejashwi’s father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, was in power.
Saraogi also commented on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s remarks concerning the Samajwadi Party’s position on Sanatan Dharma and culture. He endorsed Adityanath’s criticism and alleged that the SP seeks support from particular communities for electoral gains.
He further referred to the Ayodhya dispute and alleged that Ram devotees were subjected to lathi-charge and firing during the earlier Samajwadi Party government, resulting in deaths.
With elections approaching, Saraogi alleged that the Samajwadi Party was again attempting to create communal divisions. These remarks were part of his political criticism of the Opposition.
