Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday renewed her criticism of her nephew and former party coordinator Akash Anand, alleging that he was still not acting independently and was instead following the instructions of his father-in-law and former Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth.
The latest remarks come days after Mayawati expelled Akash Anand from the BSP after removing him as the party’s national coordinator. The relationship between the two has deteriorated in recent months, with Siddharth’s alleged anti-party activities and his purported attempts to influence the organisation through Anand emerging as a major point of contention.
Siddharth recently announced his retirement from politics while expressing faith in Mayawati’s leadership, but the move did not appear to resolve the differences.
In a lengthy post on X, Mayawati also dismissed reports about her health and appealed to BSP workers to remain united and prepare for the upcoming elections.
She said rumours had been circulating among party workers in recent days that she was unwell, prompting her to personally clarify that she was in good health and continuing with her responsibilities.
Mayawati referred to a telephone call allegedly made by Akash Anand to her residence inquiring about her health. She said he was informed that she was “in perfect health” and carrying out her duties.
Without commenting on whether Anand’s concern was genuine or part of any conspiracy, Mayawati alleged that he continued to act under Siddharth’s influence.
“Akash Anand is still not acting on his own judgment; he is acting as per instructions from his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth,” she said.
The BSP chief said the party was taking difficult decisions to keep public interest above everything else. She urged party workers to remain committed to the movement and intensify preparations for the forthcoming elections.
Mayawati also said the BSP was taking key organisational decisions to accelerate its electoral roadmap and strengthen the party.
Separately, she welcomed the 140-paragraph Delhi Declaration adopted at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, describing it as a major diplomatic achievement for India.
