The BJP is positioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life around a generational shift in governance, arguing that young Indians are increasingly being viewed not merely as beneficiaries of government schemes but as drivers of economic growth, innovation and nation-building.
The pitch is aimed particularly at a generation that has grown up with smartphones, startups, global opportunities and an increasingly confident India. The BJP says the focus has moved towards creating an environment in which young people can build businesses, pursue innovation and compete on a global stage.
According to BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Modi’s governance has sought to broaden the scale of Indian ambition across sectors including infrastructure, manufacturing, startups, technology, sports, space and defence.
The startup ecosystem is a key component of that narrative. The BJP argues that young entrepreneurs are increasingly moving from being “job seekers” to “job givers”, with startups and innovation emerging as important avenues for economic opportunity and national development.
The party also points to initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India as examples of efforts to bring sports, fitness and youth participation into the mainstream of public policy.
Technology and innovation have similarly been placed at the centre of the BJP’s governance narrative. The proposed Seva First – Innovation Challenge, aimed at students, startups, professionals and young innovators, is being presented as an effort to connect governance with India’s growing innovation ecosystem.
The BJP’s argument extends beyond employment and technology, with the party claiming that governance under Modi has altered aspirations by shifting the focus from basic access and welfare towards opportunity, enterprise and leadership.
Women are included in the same framework. Initiatives such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Lakhpati Didi, along with greater participation in decision-making, are cited by the BJP as examples of women being positioned as participants and leaders in development rather than only beneficiaries.
“A developed India by 2047 cannot be built by governments alone. It will be built by the ambition, ideas and enterprise of its youth,” a BJP leader said.
