US Ambassador Sergio Gor has launched the TRUST Fellowship, a new public-private initiative aimed at deepening collaboration between American and Indian researchers in critical technologies, an official statement said on Monday.
Speaking at the US Mission’s National Day reception in Bengaluru marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, Gor highlighted the potential for expanded India-US cooperation and said the Trump Administration was focused on delivering tangible outcomes for American workers and businesses through the bilateral partnership.
The TRUST Fellowship will bring together researchers from the two countries to work on areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing and biotechnology.
The programme is supported by Kris Gopalakrishnan of Pratithi Investments and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Mazumdar-Shaw Philanthropy, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
Under the fellowship, US postdoctoral researchers and early-career faculty members will receive stipends for 12-month collaborative research projects with Indian institutions. The programme is scheduled to begin this month.
Gor said he hoped the initiative would encourage more leaders to participate, attract additional fellows and help accelerate breakthroughs from research laboratories to the market.
The Ambassador also announced an expansion of the US Commercial Service’s presence in Bengaluru to support American companies seeking to expand in South India. The services will include export counselling, market intelligence and assistance in connecting businesses with vetted local partners.
Highlighting growing cooperation in space, Gor pointed to recent joint missions and discussions between the two countries’ space agencies on lunar exploration as evidence of an increasingly ambitious partnership.
The 250th anniversary was marked across Bengaluru, with landmarks including Vidhana Soudha, the Indian Institute of Science’s main building, ITC Gardenia, the State Central Library in Cubbon Park, Boeing and Collins Aerospace illuminated in red, white and blue.
The reception also featured cultural performances and American food and agricultural products, including dishes prepared with apples, cranberries, pecans and pistachios.
