IAS officer Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch officer, has resigned from the civil services, bringing an end to what she described as an “unforgettable” 13-year journey in public service.
Mittal, who was serving as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department, announced her resignation on Sunday through an emotional social media post, saying that while she had left her official position, she would continue to pursue the dream that India had given her.
Recalling her journey from humble beginnings to IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, followed by a job in London, Mittal said she eventually realised that professional success abroad could not replace her connection with India.
“My education, my confidence, the strength to walk tall anywhere in the world — all of it was a debt owed to this soil. That debt had to be repaid,” she wrote, explaining why she returned to India and joined the IAS.
Reflecting on her administrative career, Mittal said her postings in different parts of Uttar Pradesh had taught her important lessons. Deoria, she said, taught her that standing up for what was right was a responsibility, while her experience in Mirzapur showed her that “impossible” was often only an opinion.
“I learned that true power comes not from any position, but from her grace and the trust of the people,” she wrote.
Mittal said the most meaningful moments of her career came from seeing families receive land rights, persons with disabilities gain opportunities to live with dignity and farmers get access to water.
“Behind every government file is a person, and upholding their dignity is what justice truly means,” she said.
She also acknowledged the colleagues, officers and staff who worked alongside her, saying their support helped her continue through difficult periods.
Recalling a particularly memorable incident, Mittal spoke of an elderly woman from Lahuriya Dah who blessed her after water reached her village for the first time.
“I may have left my post today, but that touch will remain with me for life,” she wrote, adding that her dream for the country remained unchanged.
Mittal had resigned as Deoria District Magistrate on May 6 and was subsequently serving as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department.
