Security forces have arrested three persons and recovered two hand grenades and five posters bearing markings of the banned terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen during a naka-checking operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday.
The three accused were intercepted along with a motorcycle during the checking operation in South Kashmir. They were identified as Junaid Ahmad Dar, Amir Yousuf and Junaid Muzaffar, all residents of Kulgam district.
The recovered grenades and posters have been taken into custody, while further investigation is underway, officials said.
In a separate operation in neighbouring Pulwama district, security forces arrested two alleged terrorist associates and recovered a pistol, 12 rounds of ammunition and a hand grenade from their possession.
The arrests were made during a joint operation by the 44 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army and the 183 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Yarwan forest area of CB Nath in Rajpora.
According to officials, the operation was launched following coordinated security inputs. A Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was conducted in the general Yarwan forest area, during which security personnel noticed two individuals emerging from the forest towards CB Nath village in a suspicious manner.
The teams immediately moved in and apprehended both individuals.
They were identified as Latif Ahmad Deedad, son of Gh. Mohammad Deedad and a resident of Lassi Daban, and Aejaz Ahmad Bajad, son of Nazir Ahmad Bajad and a resident of Bun Kha Bamnoo.
A search of the two men led to the recovery of one pistol, 12 pistol rounds and one hand grenade, officials said.
Further investigation into both cases is underway.
