Kolkata, November 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh on Saturday dismissed Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee’s allegation that his Kalighat residence was attacked, questioning who would have the time to kill the Diamond Harbour MP.

“If they create havoc there at night, someone will surely counter it. And who has the time to kill Abhishek Banerjee?” Ghosh said while responding to the allegations.

The remarks followed a late-night confrontation between BJP and Trinamool supporters outside Banerjee’s residence in south Kolkata. The incident prompted police intervention and was followed by a sit-in protest by the Trinamool leader.

Banerjee alleged that BJP supporters attacked his residence around 2 am on Saturday and pelted stones at the house. He claimed the incident marked the seventh attempt on his life in six months and alleged that the attackers had conducted reconnaissance around his residence for two days.

The MP also criticised the police and judiciary over what he described as a lack of action against those allegedly targeting him.

Ghosh’s comments came as Kolkata Police imposed prohibitory restrictions in the area around Banerjee’s residence for two months following the clashes.

In a separate exchange, Ghosh also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his demand for a public debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Questioning Gandhi’s willingness to face questions, Ghosh said the Congress leader had not participated in a debate and usually delivered speeches without taking questions from the Press or engaging in parliamentary exchanges.

Gandhi had challenged the Prime Minister to choose any venue for a debate on allegations of anti-national activities and alleged links with foreign forces.

In a post on X, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha asked Modi to respond to the challenge, questioning who was anti-national and who had connections with foreign forces.

Ghosh suggested that Gandhi could instead debate with leaders of parties in the INDIA bloc.
