Two 22-year-old men have been charged in connection with a shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, Canada, and a separate firing incident at a residential property in which a woman was injured.
The British Columbia Provincial Extortion Task Force announced the charges on Friday, identifying the accused as Pardeep Singh and Saveer Khan. Both were arrested in Surrey on November 1 and remain in custody.
Each faces two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm, one relating to each shooting. The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
The café, identified as Kap’s Café, was targeted on October 16, 2025. Two employees were inside the establishment when shots were fired, but neither was injured. The business was closed at the time.
Four days earlier, on October 12, police had responded to a shooting at a house in the 13000 block of 103A Avenue, where a woman sustained injuries.
The task force took over both investigations after identifying possible links between the incidents. Officers worked alongside the Surrey Police Service and British Columbia’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit to make the arrests.
Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound, a senior RCMP officer in the Lower Mainland, said the charges followed more than a year of investigative work involving search warrants, judicial authorisations and evidence analysis.
He said the incidents had caused concern in the community and described the charges as an example of cooperation among law enforcement agencies in tackling extortion-related violence.
However, the charges announced so far relate to the shootings. Police have not identified any specific extortion demand connected to either incident or established the accused men’s nationality.
Kap’s Café had reportedly been targeted in two earlier shootings before the October 2025 attack. Videos recorded from the shooters’ perspective also circulated widely on social media.
The RCMP-led Provincial Extortion Task Force was established in British Columbia in September 2025 to coordinate investigations into extortion-related offences across the province.
