Bhubaneswar, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Fresh allegations have emerged against former Odisha Director General of Police (Prisons) Susanta Kumar Nath, with a suspended jailor accusing him of pressuring him to plant brown sugar on an undertrial prisoner and falsely implicate him in a narcotics case.
In a complaint to the Odisha Home Department, Pradipta Kumar Mahalik, formerly posted at Balasore District Jail, alleged that he was suspended for refusing to follow Nath’s instructions.
In a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary on Monday, Mahalik claimed that Nath summoned him to Bhubaneswar on October 8. He alleged that Bhubaneswar Jail Superintendent Sarbeswar Sahu met him at the railway station and conveyed instructions to plant brown sugar in the pocket of undertrial prisoner Rajib Lochan Das, conduct a search and register a criminal case against him.
Mahalik further alleged that during a meeting at Nath’s office on October 9, the senior officer personally pressured him to carry out the operation, citing pressure from the Home Department. According to the complaint, Nath allegedly offered him money, awards and promotion in return for compliance. Mahalik claimed he refused and was made to remain in the office until evening.
The complaint also alleged that the instructions had been issued at the behest of an individual identified as Pragya Prakash Nayak.
Mahalik said he fell seriously ill after the incident and remained admitted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital from October 10 to 12. Despite informing the department about his hospitalisation through email, he was suspended on October 13.
Calling the action retaliatory, unethical and unlawful, Mahalik has sought revocation of his suspension and reinstatement.
Nath was shifted to the Home Department as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on Sunday following sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by a former woman jailor of Choudwar Circle Jail.
