The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games concluded with a record 1,538 medals awarded and 27 world records broken during six days of competition, highlighting the growing reach and competitiveness of Para sports across Asia.
Of the 45 participating National Paralympic Committees (NPCs), 33 won at least one medal, while 22 secured gold. Athletes also set 81 Asian records and 306 Asian Para Games records, surpassing the previous benchmarks of 71 and 279, respectively, at Hangzhou 2022. Para athletics accounted for 11 of the 27 world records.
China topped the medal table with 435 medals, including 207 gold, 117 silver and 111 bronze. Hosts Japan finished second with 64 gold medals, their best-ever performance at the Games, improving on their previous high of 45 gold medals in 2018. Uzbekistan finished third, followed by India and the Republic of Korea.
Tajikistan and Cambodia also achieved historic milestones by winning their maiden Asian Para Games medals in Para judo and Para athletics, respectively.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Asian Paralympic Committee President Majid Rashed said the legacy of the Games would be measured not only by medals and records but also by opportunities created for future generations.
“The records will stand, the medals will be treasured and the memories will remain. But the true legacy of Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will be measured by what we do next. More athletes discovering their potential. More countries developing their talent. More people with disabilities finding their rightful place in sport and society,” Rashed said.
He stressed the need to ensure better opportunities for emerging Para athletes across Asia, adding that the Games had reinforced the power of sport to unite people and change lives.
