BJP President Nitin Nabin on Sunday hailed veteran party leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani for his lifelong commitment to national service, ideological conviction and role in building the party, saying his principle of ‘Nation First’ continues to inspire generations of BJP workers.
Addressing a programme at the BJP headquarters to mark Advani’s birthday, Nabin extended greetings on behalf of the party as the veteran leader entered his 100th year on November 8. Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra, Union Minister Piyush Goyal and other senior leaders were also present.
Nabin said that although he had not had the opportunity to work directly with Advani, his contributions and the experiences shared by those who had worked alongside him offered valuable lessons for younger generations.
Describing Advani as a leader who combined humility and simplicity with firmness in decision-making, Nabin highlighted his emphasis on political propriety, sensitivity and integrity. He recalled that Advani had overcome the hardships of Partition and dedicated his life to the country’s progress, placing national interest above all else.
The BJP president also credited Advani and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with building the party during its formative years, when it had only two seats in Parliament. Their determination and shared vision, he said, helped the BJP grow into its present position.
Recalling the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Nabin referred to Advani’s historic Rath Yatra, which was stopped in Samastipur, Bihar, and acknowledged the contribution of kar sevaks and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the eventual construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
He also recalled Advani’s role during the Emergency, saying the veteran leader had stood firmly for democratic values when they were under threat. Nabin cited Advani’s position that political differences should not come in the way of unity on matters of national interest.
Nabin said the BJP would continue to carry forward the ideals and vision that Advani had instilled in the organisation, while working under Modi’s leadership towards the goal of a developed India. He wished the veteran leader good health and a long life.
