Chandigarh, November 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab recorded 3,307 incidents of stubble burning up to November 7, with crop-residue burning confirmed at 1,275 locations following inspections, according to the latest report of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).
The report said authorities had inspected 2,903 sites across the state. Environmental compensation of Rs 60.60 lakh was imposed in connection with the violations, of which Rs 32.50 lakh had been recovered.
As many as 870 FIRs have been registered, while red entries have been made in 1,004 cases. Authorities have also issued 1,102 warning notices.
Tarn Taran reported the highest number of incidents at 623, followed by Ferozepur with 435, Sangrur with 294, Bathinda with 274 and Amritsar with 235.
Patiala district recorded 196 incidents during the period. Of these, 157 sites were inspected and crop-residue burning was confirmed at 94 locations.
The authorities imposed environmental compensation of Rs 3.45 lakh in Patiala district and recovered Rs 1.25 lakh. The district also reported 77 FIRs, 33 red entries and 185 warning notices.
The continued incidents have posed a challenge to the state administration despite enforcement measures and repeated warnings to farmers against burning crop residue.
The PPCB data highlights the gap between reported incidents and confirmed cases, with inspections and enforcement action continuing across districts. The authorities are seeking to curb the practice amid concerns over its contribution to air pollution.
