Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Sunday praised veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani for laying the party’s organisational foundations across the country, saying his sustained efforts at the grassroots level played a major role in the BJP’s eventual rise to power.
Speaking to reporters on Advani’s 100th birthday, Ramdev described the veteran leader’s political contribution as monumental, highlighting his work in expanding the BJP’s presence from state and district units down to tehsil and block levels.
He said Advani’s life offered two important lessons: discipline in personal habits, particularly his restraint in food, and a commitment to hard work. Ramdev added that the purpose of leadership should go beyond attaining power and focus on taking society forward.
The yoga guru also described Advani as an example of dedication and discipline, saying his political journey reflected a resolve to leave behind a lasting legacy.
Ramdev subsequently praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving greater prominence to national and religious festivals, including Holi, Diwali, Janmashtami and Ram Navami. He also appreciated the Prime Minister’s practice of celebrating Diwali with soldiers posted away from their families.
Commenting on the 10th Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya, Ramdev called the event a symbol of cultural pride. He referred to the illumination of more than 30 lakh diyas across 56 ghats in Uttar Pradesh and credited Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the scale and organisation of the celebrations.
Ramdev said Adityanath was setting new benchmarks in development, security and social harmony while seeking to move beyond the legacy of colonial rule.
