Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has decided to constitute a disciplinary committee to examine the Special Task Force (STF) report on allegations of religious conversion and harassment of female doctors at the institution.
The decision was taken at a special meeting of the university’s Executive Council on Friday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor. The Council discussed the report, which was received through the Uttar Pradesh government on October 30. The state government had earlier directed the university to initiate action against individuals identified in the report.
According to an official statement, the Registrar presented the detailed STF report before the Council. Representations submitted by some university teachers and employees in connection with the findings were also placed before the members. The Council decided that these submissions should be referred to the relevant departmental committees for consideration, with further action to be taken according to rules after examining the facts and objections.
During the meeting, some members reportedly claimed that their names had been “wrongly” and “unfairly” included in the STF’s observations.
After considering the report and related records, the Executive Council unanimously decided to constitute a Disciplinary Action Committee under Section 11.11 of the KGMU Act and the university statutes.
The six-member committee will comprise the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, two senior faculty members and two independent members. The independent members will be senior administrative officers, with preference given to retired Indian Police Service officers who had served in the highest ranks.
The committee will examine the STF report, relevant facts and records, and submissions made by the concerned teachers and individuals before recommending further action in accordance with university statutes and applicable rules.
