Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested two more alleged terror associates in connection with a separatist module linked to a banned organisation in Bandipora district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to eight.
According to a police statement, the arrests were made during the ongoing investigation into a prison-linked terror module allegedly targeting women for separatist ideology and propaganda. The case, registered as FIR No. 168/2026, involves Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The arrested persons have been identified as Irshad Ahmed Bhat, son of Gh. Mohd Bhat and a resident of Chakloo in Baramulla, and Showkat Ahmed Reshi, son of Gh. Mohd Reshi and a resident of Watlab in Sopore.
Police said both men had been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the case. Further investigation is underway to establish their roles and identify other possible links and associates connected with the module.
Bandipora Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling terror networks and taking legal action against those found involved in activities prejudicial to the security and peace of the region.
Meanwhile, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing and local police units have intensified operations against alleged cross-border terror modules, online radicalisation networks and terror-financing activities.
In recent operations, CIK conducted coordinated searches at six locations across Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama and Anantnag in connection with a social media-driven recruitment network allegedly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Investigators seized digital devices and documents while probing suspected links with cross-border handlers and local associates, including connections to cases involving Hokersar in Srinagar and Magam in Budgam.
CIK had earlier searched 10 locations across Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama in connection with an alleged sleeper cell and recruitment network reportedly operated across the border by Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Abdullah Ghazi.
J&K Police have also conducted searches in Shopian targeting alleged associates and support networks of banned organisations, while the State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir has pursued investigations into alleged cryptocurrency-based terror-financing activities.
