Jammu, October 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested the main accused in an alleged ₹4.10-crore fraud in which victims were reportedly promised railway jobs and contracts for supplying drinking water bottles to Northern Railway.

According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, the accused was arrested in Jammu on Tuesday following the registration of a case at Channi Himmat police station.

Investigators said the victims were allegedly cheated through false promises of recruitment through the Railway Board and fabricated supply tenders. The accused is currently in judicial custody, police said.

“The investigation is focused on identifying the entire network involved, tracing the financial transactions and establishing the roles of other individuals associated with the fraud,” the statement said.

Police are working to identify and apprehend other suspects. The identities of those involved are being withheld at this stage to protect the investigation, officials said.

The case adds to a series of alleged railway recruitment frauds reported in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a separate case registered earlier, the Jammu Crime Branch booked Abdul Razaq Tantray of Baramulla in July for allegedly collecting money from a complainant by promising a railway job. Investigators said forged documents, including a roll-number slip and receipt, were allegedly used to make the offer appear genuine. That case remains under investigation.

In another case, the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir filed a chargesheet in 2025 before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Beerwah, Budgam, over alleged forged railway appointment letters. The accused named in that case included Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Adil Shah and Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar.

Investigators alleged that money was extracted from victims using fake appointment orders. The case highlights continuing concerns over fraudulent recruitment promises targeting job seekers.
