Indian squash sensation Anahat Singh has withdrawn from the Canadian Women’s Open due to injury ahead of her quarterfinal match, according to the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Tour website.
The world No. 15 had been in impressive form, defeating England’s Saran Nghiem in four games to secure her place in the last eight. She was scheduled to face Egyptian world No. 7 and top seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir in the quarterfinal of the PSA Silver-level tournament.
Following Anahat’s withdrawal, Aboelkheir received a walkover into the semifinals in Toronto.
The withdrawal comes after another notable performance by the Indian teenager last week at the Silicon Valley Open in Redwood City, United States. Anahat stunned Egyptian eight-time world champion Nour ElSherbini in straight games to reach the quarterfinals, recording the biggest victory of her career.
Her recent performances have strengthened her standing among the emerging talents on the women’s squash tour. Consecutive deep runs at tournaments in the United States and Canada have given her valuable experience against established international opponents.
Anahat also made history at the Asian Games 2026 last month by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the squash singles final at the continental event.
She eventually settled for silver after losing 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7) to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam, the defending champion, in the women’s singles final.
At the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, Anahat had won two bronze medals, one in the women’s team event and another in mixed doubles. Her singles silver at the 2026 edition added another major achievement to her growing international record.
Earlier this year, Anahat claimed the girls’ singles title at the World Junior Squash Championships 2026, becoming the first Indian player to win the crown and ending Egypt’s 15-year reign in the event.
Her withdrawal from the Canadian Open quarterfinal will interrupt her latest tournament campaign, with the extent of the injury not specified in the report.
