New Delhi, October 14, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi Police on Wednesday said Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka had been remanded to five days of judicial custody over alleged repeated violations of law, with authorities citing concerns that they could again break the law and instigate others if released.

CJP member Ajinkya Shinde, who was also detained in connection with the incident, was directed to maintain peace and good behaviour for six months on a personal bond and surety of Rs 5,000, police said.

According to Delhi Police, Das, Ranka, Shinde and 11 other CJP members reached Jantar Mantar on the morning of October 13 by allegedly trespassing through private premises. The site had been denotified as a designated protest venue two days earlier.

Police personnel deployed in the area intervened to stop the group. The protesters allegedly obstructed officers in the discharge of their official duties, following which all 14 individuals were detained.

Police registered FIR No. 289/26 at Connaught Place police station under Sections 223(a), 332 and 61(2), and FIR No. 128/26 at Parliament Street police station under Sections 221, 115(2), 132, 121(1) and 3(5), dated October 13.

The police statement said Das, Ranka and Shinde were subsequently arrested under preventive provisions, citing alleged repeated attempts to disturb public peace and violate the law. Authorities also took into account their alleged attempts to encourage others through social media to engage in similar activities.

The three were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg on Wednesday, where proceedings under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were initiated.

“After considering the matter, the SEM court, considering the kalandra details and in view of their repeated violations of law, and serious apprehension that if released on bail they will again violate law and instigate others to violate law, remanded Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to 05 days of judicial custody,” police said.

The police added that Shinde had been bound down to maintain peace and good behaviour for six months against a personal bond and surety of Rs 5,000.

The latest action follows an earlier case linked to a CJP protest on October 10, in which party founder Abhijeet Dipke, along with Das and Ranka, was released after furnishing a bond of Rs 50,000 and agreeing not to become involved in any breach-of-peace cases for one year.

Police said the latest case involved alleged trespassing and violations of bond conditions, treating Das and Ranka as repeat offenders.

The CJP members had been protesting against the Election Commission of India over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. They were detained on Tuesday after allegedly crossing police barricades and entering Jantar Mantar, where they raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Delhi Police said Jantar Mantar was denotified as a designated protest site on October 12 under new guidelines issued through Standing Order No. L&O/48/2026. The decision followed recommendations from a committee of the Union Home Ministry.

Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi have been designated as alternative venues for protests.
