Chatra, November 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Chatra district police have arrested three youths with illegal firearms while allegedly planning a major criminal incident, officials said on Saturday. Police said they foiled a suspected criminal conspiracy following a tip-off.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Medwadi village; Nitish Kumar, from Bhoridih village; and Abhishek Kumar, from Madarpur village. All three belong to the Kunda police station area.

Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunny Vardhan said Superintendent of Police Animesh Nathani had received confidential information that two to four youths with criminal backgrounds were allegedly planning a major crime using illegal weapons. A special team led by the SDPO was formed and conducted raids at suspected locations, apprehending the three accused.

Police recovered two country-made pistols, one regular pistol, three live cartridges, three mobile phones and Rs 3,500 in cash from their possession.

During the investigation, police found that two of the accused had previous criminal records. An FIR (Case No. 192/25) is registered against Nitish Kumar at Sadar police station, while Mukesh Kumar has six cases registered against him across Kunda, Pratappur, Lawalong and Manatu police stations. These include cases related to attempted murder, violations of the Arms Act and other offences, police said.

The accused are being questioned to establish the nature of their alleged plans and identify possible associates and links to a wider criminal network. Police are also investigating whether the recovered weapons were intended for any specific criminal activity.
