Virat Kohli has chosen his 43-run innings against England in the 2013 Champions Trophy final as his favourite ODI knock, recalling a performance that helped India clinch the title in a tense, rain-affected contest.
The former India captain made the choice in a video shared by Star Sports on Thursday, coinciding with his 38th birthday.
Kohli was presented with several of his memorable ODI performances to choose from, including his 183 against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup, an unbeaten 133 against Sri Lanka in the 2012 Commonwealth Bank Series and an 85 against Australia during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
He also considered his 107 against Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup and his 35 in the 2011 World Cup final before settling on the Champions Trophy performance.
The final at Edgbaston in Birmingham was reduced to 20 overs per side because of rain. Batting first, India struggled against England’s bowling attack and were reduced to 66/5.
Coming in at 19/1, Kohli steadied the innings with a 41-run partnership alongside Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 31. Kohli struck 43 off 34 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six, before being dismissed in the 19th over.
Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 33 helped India reach 129/7 in their 20 overs.
India then restricted England to 124/8, securing a five-run victory and the Champions Trophy title.
Kohli, widely regarded as one of the finest ODI batters of his generation, has built a reputation for delivering under pressure, particularly while chasing targets. He continues to represent India in the 50-over format.
