Raipur, November 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A CBI court in Raipur on Wednesday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation eight days’ custodial remand of Sourabh Chandrakar, the main accused in the alleged Mahadev online betting app scam, estimated at around Rs 6,000 crore.
The CBI will take Chandrakar to Delhi for questioning at its headquarters. He will be produced before the court again on November 12. The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is separately investigating the money-laundering angle, also sought his remand. Chandrakar’s counsel, Tushar Giri, opposed the CBI plea, calling it improper.
Chandrakar was brought to Raipur from Delhi on Tuesday after being extradited from Oman. A Delhi court had earlier granted the CBI two days’ transit remand. He had been absconding in Dubai since 2023 and was arrested by Oman’s Royal Police on July 8. An Interpol Red Corner Notice had been issued against him.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said CBI questioning could reveal several more names. Congress state president Deepak Baij, meanwhile, questioned why co-accused Ravi Uppal and Shubham Soni remained at large. Baij also said more than 72 FIRs had been registered in the case during the previous Congress government.
Chandrakar’s lawyer had earlier challenged the extradition process, arguing that Oman had approved India’s request only in connection with the ED case and not the CBI investigation.
The Chhattisgarh government transferred 13 FIRs related to the betting app to the CBI, which has filed charge sheets in two cases. The ED has also filed a prosecution complaint against Chandrakar.
According to the CBI, Chandrakar, Ravi Uppal and their associates promoted the app, operated multiple online betting platforms and routed the proceeds through various bank accounts to the UAE.
