The Mumbai Police have arrested a Bengaluru-based IT engineer accused of sending threatening messages to several Bollywood celebrities, including actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor.
The accused, identified as Vaibhav Mishra, was arrested in Bengaluru on Wednesday. According to police sources, he allegedly sent threatening audio messages while impersonating a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The accused had reportedly been threatening several film personalities based in Mumbai over the past few days. Ayushmann Khurrana allegedly received an audio message from a person claiming links with the Bishnoi gang and demanding crores of rupees from the actor.
Earlier, Tusshar Kapoor reportedly received a threatening audio message from a sender identifying himself as Harry Boxxer, allegedly a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The sender demanded Rs 5 crore from the actor. However, preliminary investigation suggested that the audio could be fake.
The arrest comes amid heightened concern in the film industry following a firing attack on actor Tiger Shroff on October 18. The Lawrence Bishnoi group reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
A representative of the group, Anil Pandit, subsequently issued a social media post threatening people working closely with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. He also released an audio clip demanding an apology from Salman Khan.
“Listen to me carefully Salman Khan. If you don’t apologize to my elder brother, Lawrence Bishnoi, or to the Bishnoi community, then we won’t even leave a dog in your house. We will destroy your entire family. Keep this in mind. Don’t think that you are in security and nothing will happen to you,” the speaker said in the clip.
