Ayodhya has taken on a festive appearance with elaborate floral decorations and dazzling lights as the holy city prepares to host the 10th edition of Deepotsav on Saturday, a day ahead of Diwali.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple has emerged as a major attraction, with its courtyard, entrances and the area leading to the main shrine of Ram Lalla adorned with colourful lighting and floral arrangements. Special selfie points have also been set up for visitors, adding to the festive appeal of the temple complex.
The celebrations will be formally inaugurated by Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, sadhus and religious leaders.
A major highlight will be the illumination of 56 ghats along the Saryu River with millions of earthen lamps. The Ram temple will also be illuminated, with a symbolic ceremony involving the lighting of 101 lamps planned in its courtyard.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to participate in several programmes, including the ceremonial welcome of Lord Ram, a symbolic coronation, the Saryu Aarti and the lighting of earthen lamps.
According to the proposed schedule, the Chief Minister will arrive at the helipad near Ram Katha Park around 2.40 p.m. He will witness the Deepotsav tableaux and take part in the chariot-pulling ceremony. A helicopter carrying representations of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita and Lakshman will also shower flower petals over the city.
The symbolic coronation will be followed by an address by the Chief Minister to sadhus, religious leaders, residents and devotees at Ram Katha Park.
The celebrations will continue at Ram Ki Paidi with the Saryu Aarti and ceremonial lighting of lamps. Projection mapping depicting the life of Lord Ram, along with laser and drone shows, will form part of the evening’s attractions.
The 2026 edition marks the 10th anniversary of Ayodhya’s grand Deepotsav celebrations.
