New Delhi, November 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has described her forthcoming memoir as a personal account of her family, relationships and shared experiences, insisting that the book is not intended to be a political statement.

In her first post on X on Sunday, marking her debut on the platform, the Rajya Sabha MP recalled her late husband and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, describing him as a gentle and very good-looking person.

Explaining the motivation behind the book, titled Belonging: A Journey of Love, Sonia Gandhi said she wanted to offer a more intimate and honest portrait of her family, beyond the accounts that have appeared in public over the years.

“This is not a political book, it’s a personal one. Much has been written about my family, but rarely with real insight into who they were, their motivations, their struggles, their very human flaws. I wanted to portray them honestly, as people I knew and loved,” she wrote.

The 544-page memoir is scheduled for global release on November 10. HarperCollins India will publish the Indian edition on the same date.

Sonia Gandhi had made her Instagram debut on Thursday with posts introducing the book, describing it as “a story of love, duty, loss and finding a place to belong”.

Her insistence that the memoir is personal comes amid criticism from the BJP, which has questioned its contents and alleged that it contains political rhetoric rather than simply personal reflections.

The debate gained momentum following an interview Sonia Gandhi gave to The Hindu ahead of the release. In it, she accused the Narendra Modi government of damaging democratic institutions, exerting influence over mainstream media and using religion for political gains.

She also defended the constitutional basis of the 1975 Emergency, drawing criticism from BJP leaders, who accused her of attempting to justify the period under the government of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi has generally avoided personal social media engagement, with her public statements largely issued through the Congress party’s official channels. Her recent posts mark a rare direct outreach ahead of the memoir’s publication.
