Actor Vardhaan Puri has fondly recalled his childhood Diwali celebrations with his grandfather, legendary actor Amrish Puri, remembering the sweets he enjoyed and the crackers he used to burst with his family.
Sharing his favourite childhood memories, Vardhaan said he was particularly fond of Kaju Katli, Moti Choor ke Laddu, Besan Laddu, Kheer and Rasmalai. While he still enjoys sweets, he now follows a disciplined diet to meet his fitness goals.
He also recalled bursting crackers as a child but said he has since stopped, becoming more mindful of the environment.
Vardhaan said wearing new clothes for Diwali is one tradition he has continued since childhood. “I like to wear them when I am in the pujas and when the family comes over. That always makes me feel good.”
He added that his family buys gold or silver every Diwali, either as jewellery or vessels, as they are considered auspicious. The actor also enjoys shopping with his mother and sending personalised gifts to people close to the family.
For Vardhaan, Diwali goes beyond religious boundaries and brings people from different faiths, religions and communities together.
He also considers the festival an opportunity to resolve differences and rebuild relationships. Recalling his approach, he said he reaches out to people with whom he may have disagreements or strained relations, seeking to replace ill feelings with peace and happiness.
He added that he wants to practise this spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation throughout the year rather than limiting it to Diwali.
