US President Donald Trump has announced plans for a massive aerospace exhibition complex at Florida’s former space shuttle landing facility, saying the proposed venue will become bigger than the prestigious Paris Air Show within about two years.
Addressing the MAX POWER aerospace technology expo and air show at Kennedy Space Center, Trump outlined a proposed 1,900-acre venue that would bring together commercial aviation, private aircraft and space technology under one roof.
“We’re going to have a show the likes of which has never been done before,” Trump said, arguing that the United States should host the world’s largest aerospace showcase given the prominent position of American companies in the sector.
He cited major exhibitions in Paris, Britain and Dubai, and projected that the proposed Florida event could attract hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, generate billions of dollars in economic activity and facilitate deals worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
Trump said the site’s runway and surrounding land would allow aircraft displays, space demonstrations and new exhibition infrastructure to be developed over the coming years.
The President also used the address to reiterate his administration’s ambitions for space exploration. He praised NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and said the United States aimed to return astronauts to the Moon before the end of his term, with the longer-term goal of establishing a sustained presence there.
NASA’s published Artemis programme identifies a 2027 mission to test integrated systems and operational capabilities in Earth orbit, followed by a targeted lunar landing under Artemis IV in 2028.
Trump also repeated his ambition to send a nuclear-powered spacecraft towards Mars. NASA announced its Space Reactor-1 Freedom mission in March, targeting a launch before the end of 2028. The robotic mission is intended to demonstrate nuclear electric propulsion in deep space and deploy small helicopters to explore the Martian surface. It is separate from any future crewed mission to Mars.
Turning to aviation, Trump recalled travelling aboard the supersonic Concorde and lamented that commercial passenger aviation had lost the ability to offer such high-speed services.
“This may be the only industry in the world where we’ve gone backwards,” he said, adding that he expected the sector to move forward again.
He promoted efforts to develop supersonic aircraft with reduced sonic-boom disruption, as well as drones, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and autonomous flight technologies.
The proposed Florida exhibition is intended to provide a common platform for these emerging technologies alongside established aircraft manufacturers and the space industry.
The three-day MAX POWER event is being held at and around Kennedy Space Center from November 6 to 8. Trump’s address combined plans for a major aerospace exhibition with broader ambitions for American aviation, manufacturing and space exploration.
