Across the state, officials have inspected 1,487 fields and confirmed stubble burning at 701 locations. Evidence of burning was found in another 81 fields. Revenue records have been marked with ‘red entries’ in 527 fields, while warning notices have been issued in 609 cases over alleged negligence. Prosecution proceedings have been initiated in 16 cases.
The report also records nine FIRs in Patiala district, where 93 incidents have been reported. Of the 39 fields inspected there, burning was confirmed at 10 locations. Environmental compensation of ₹40,000 was imposed in seven cases, with ₹20,000 recovered. Red entries were made in the revenue records of 10 fields, and warning notices were issued to 10 farmers.
Despite the enforcement measures, no charge sheets have been filed so far, and no nodal or supervisory officer has been suspended in connection with the incidents.
The figures come amid worsening air pollution across North India as winter approaches. The continued farm fires have renewed attention on the need for effective monitoring, enforcement and awareness among farmers to curb stubble burning.
