Mohali, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to 801 newly recruited candidates in Mohali, taking the total number of government jobs provided by his government to 71,777.
Describing the appointments as a Diwali gift to youth, Mann said all recruitments had been made strictly on merit, without money or political recommendations. He challenged the opposition to point out even a single instance of corruption in the recruitment process and announced that another 600 youth would get government jobs next week.
“Today, appointment letters were distributed to 801 newly recruited candidates in Mohali. So far, we have provided government jobs to more than 71,777 youth, entirely free of cost and strictly on the basis of merit,” Mann said in a post on X.
Addressing the gathering, he said the appointment letters represented hope, dignity and a secure future for thousands of families. He urged the newly appointed employees to serve Punjab honestly and encouraged them to prepare for UPSC examinations and aspire to become IAS and IPS officers.
Targeting the Akali Dal and Congress, Mann alleged that previous governments had sold government jobs through money, recommendations and bribes. He accused their leaders of exploiting Punjab’s resources for personal gains and said the opposition was attempting to defame his government because of its development and public welfare initiatives.
Mann also said around 600 additional recruitment opportunities had been created in ancillary positions in PSPCL. He maintained that public money was being spent on the welfare of Punjab’s people and that his government considered itself a trustee of the state exchequer.
Highlighting the education sector, the Chief Minister claimed that Punjab had emerged as the country’s leading state in school education, surpassing Kerala. He said the government was strengthening educational infrastructure to help children from ordinary and underprivileged families reach top administrative positions.
On agriculture, Mann said nearly 18,000 cusecs of canal water was now reaching fields through the strengthened irrigation network. He claimed the initiative had reduced dependence on groundwater and improved groundwater levels by one to five metres in several areas.
He said the government was also working to strengthen healthcare, sports, infrastructure and employment opportunities, adding that improved sports facilities would help channelise youth energy away from drugs and other social evils.
