Actress Shafaq Naaz has hit back at social media trolls questioning her religious identity after she shared pictures celebrating Karwa Chauth with her husband, Zeeshan.
The actress said wearing sindoor and celebrating a Hindu festival did not change her religion. Expressing disappointment over the abuse, she asked, “Is my religion so halka? Kya religion itna halka hai?”
Shafaq said India’s cultural diversity allows people to celebrate different festivals and that respecting every religion is important. She also objected to trolls dragging her husband into the controversy.
“Religion is a very personal thing. It’s a belief. I will do whatever I can in my capacity and what I want to do. You should not force and you should not judge,” she said, asking those who disagreed with her beliefs to unfollow her rather than target her.
The actress made it clear that she would continue celebrating festivals across communities, including Eid, Diwali and Holi. “I will not stop believing what I believe,” she said.
Shafaq recently shared pictures in a red saree, sindoor and red bangles, holding a traditional sieve during the Karwa Chauth celebrations. She also posted pictures with her husband and wrote, “All dressed up for the man who has seen me at my absolute worst. Happy karva chauth”.
Known for playing Kunti in Mahabharat and Mayuri in Chidiya Ghar, Shafaq has also appeared in several other television shows.
