Pune, October 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate Pune Metro Line-3, connecting Maan-Hinjawadi with Shivajinagar, on November 4, marking a major development in the city’s public transport network.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar will attend the inauguration as chief guests.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Badminton Hall of the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mhalunge-Balewadi. Passenger services on the corridor will begin at 6 a.m. on November 4, 2026.
Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari told reporters on Saturday that the 23.203-km corridor is fully elevated and is popularly known as the ‘Puneri Metro’ and the ‘Pink Line’.
Starting from Maan, the route passes through the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi before connecting to Shivajinagar, a major administrative and commercial centre of Pune.
The project has an estimated cost of Rs 8,313 crore, including land acquisition and utility shifting. It has been implemented under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) public-private partnership model in accordance with the Central Government’s National Metro Rail Policy, 2017.
Under the concession agreement with PMRDA, the project is being executed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), a special purpose vehicle formed as a joint venture between TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
Of the corridor’s 23 stations, 17 will be opened to passengers from November 4. Seven of these stations will initially have only one operational staircase, while the remaining 10 will have both staircases available.
The seven stations with one operational staircase are Maan (Station 1), Maan-MIDC Circle Phase-2 (Station 2), Maan-Bus Depot (Station 3), Hinjawadi Phase-2 Circle-1 (Station 5), Padmabhushan Chowk (Station 6), College of Agriculture (Station 21) and District and Sessions Court (Station 23).
The 10 stations where both staircases will be operational are Hinjawadi Phase-2 Circle-2 (Station 4), Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Hinjawadi (Station 7), Hinjawadi Phase-1 (Station 8), Wakad Chowk (Station 9), Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge (Station 10), MITCON, Balewadi (Station 11), R.K. Laxman Museum, Balewadi (Station 12), Aundh (Station 17), Sakal Nagar (Station 18) and Savitribai Phule Pune University (Station 19).
Work on Stations 13 and 14 is in its final stage and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026. The remaining four stations—15, 16, 20 and 22—along with their staircases, will be completed and commissioned in phases by January 2027.
To facilitate onward connectivity, multi-modal transport arrangements are being developed outside metro stations. Dedicated pick-up and drop-off points are being set up for PMPML buses, auto-rickshaws, app-based taxis such as Ola and Uber, and e-bikes. Parking facilities for two-wheelers and four-wheelers are also being provided near stations.
The project also includes dedicated cycle tracks, wider footpaths, pedestrian crossings and foot overbridges to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Chaudhari said the facilities would help reduce traffic congestion, particularly in the Hinjawadi area, and improve connectivity across the corridor.
The entire route has been inspected by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) granted final safety approval for the first 12.60-km stretch, from Maan (PMR-1) to R.K. Laxman Museum, Balewadi (PMR-12), on July 23, 2026. Approval for the section covering the remaining five stations was granted on September 23, 2026.
For station security, 350 personnel from the Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC) have been deployed.
An advanced passenger information and ticketing system has been developed to help commuters plan journeys, navigate stations and access services conveniently. A joint mobile application has also been developed for passengers using both Maha Metro’s existing lines and the new Metro Line-3.
The project has installed a total solar power generation capacity of 7.60 MW, comprising 6.10 MW at metro stations and 1.50 MW at the car depot. The renewable energy generated is expected to meet nearly 30 per cent of the project’s overall power requirements.
Around 100 women train pilots will operate the trains on Pune Metro Line-3. Women will also account for approximately 50 per cent of the total station workforce, including station controllers, ticketing personnel and station attendants.
Chaudhari said the initiative reflected the project’s commitment to women’s empowerment, gender equality and greater female participation in modern public transport.
The corridor is expected to ease daily traffic congestion in Hinjawadi IT Park, Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, Mhalunge, Ganeshkhind Road and Shivajinagar. According to the PMRDA commissioner, around 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh people are expected to use the metro service daily.
