Washington, October 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The US State Department has approved a possible sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptors and related equipment to Ukraine, in a package estimated at $2.1 billion and to be funded entirely by US allies and partners.
The Bureau of Political-Military Affairs announced the approval on Friday, confirming that Congress had been notified. The proposed Foreign Military Sale follows a Ukrainian request for 500 PAC-3 MSE missiles, along with classified and unclassified spare parts and logistical and programme support.
According to the State Department, the purchase will be financed through contributions from Canada, Germany and Norway under the JUMPSTART programme, as well as national funds financed through the European Union’s Ukraine Support Loan. No US government funds will be used for the transaction.
The department said the proposed sale would support Washington’s foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the security of a partner country in Europe.
It added that the interceptors would improve Ukraine’s integrated air and missile defence capabilities, helping its armed forces respond to current and future threats and sustain operations of existing Patriot systems against ongoing aerial attacks.
The State Department also assessed that Ukraine would be able to absorb the equipment and services into its armed forces without difficulty.
The proposed transaction would not require additional US government or contractor personnel to be assigned to Ukraine. The department further said the sale would have no adverse impact on US defence readiness.
The approval is for a possible Foreign Military Sale, and the notification does not by itself establish that the transaction has been completed.
